JOHN PATRICK SCHUTZ- appeared Off-Broadway as the lead in the first ever revival of Irving Berlin's 1914 musical " Watch Your Step " in a role written specifically for the famous Vaudevillian, Vernon Castle (and played by Fred Astaire in the movie). His touring and regional credits include: Pippin in " Pippin ", Joseph in " Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat ", Older Patrick in " Mame ", Bert Healey in " Annie ", Dream Curley in " Oklahoma! ", and Brian in the first post-New York production of " Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens". His most recent roles have been The Mayor in Neil Berg's " Chess: In Concert" , and Prince Danilo in " The Merry Widow" for The Hudson Valley OperaFest (for whom he also serves as on-stage narrator). He also toured with an education show for the National Theatre for the Performing Arts.
As a cabaret performer he has appeared on cruise ships and in venues in New York, Ohio, Boston and Cape Cod. A veteran of 8 solo shows at NYC's Eighty-Eights and Don't Tell Mama , his shows have received coveted MAC award nominations in two different years. He also appeared regularly at Decades in New York City in a Broadway/Cabaret revue. He is a very frequent performer in Neil Berg's " Broadway Series " concerts at the Nyack Seaport, and also appeared in Neil's " One Hundred Years of Broadway " at the Helen Hayes Performing Arts Center. His concert work has lead to appearances at the Russian Tea Room, the Waldorf Astoria, the prestigious Sandy Lane Resort in Barbados and has allowed him to perform for Queen Noor and Mikhail Gorbachev. As a director and choreographer, he has worked with such stock companies as Trotwood Circle Theatre, La Comedia Theatre, and Westgate Theatre in Ohio and Waterville Opera House in Maine.
As a writer, his collaboration with Neil Berg " Fiona: The Nursery Rhyme Musical" had its' debut at the Irvington Theatre in 2002 and has been performed at the Helen Hayes Theatre Company in Nyack as well; he also collaborated with Berg and Jim Fyfe on "Threads" a retelling of "The Emperor's New Clothes" story. His comedy " Friends of the Heart" premiered in Boston at The Living Center in 1997; his AIDS drama " Survivors" debuted in Provincetown, MA in 1994; and his first play " Exhibition in B Major" began at Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack all the way back in 1985. John served has served as a Music/Cabaret/Theatre Critic for the Industry Publication Applause, Applause for the several years, and served in that capacity for Provincetown Paper and Provincetown Magazine (for whom he also served as Editor-in-Chief for 2 summers). His musical parody material is sought after by Cabaret Artists and Broadway Singers alike.
